Donna had been dreading this all week, since she received Daniel's call. He'd asked to meet with her somewhere, so that he could finally see Christopher. At first she'd resisted, completely against even letting Daniel anywhere near her baby, but once again he threatened her with the best lawyers money could buy to gain access to Christopher; so reluctantly, she agreed.
It was extremely warm as Donna sat in the park, with Christopher's stroller parked beside the bench she sat on. It was so lovely she'd decided to walk to the park instead of taking the tube; Eric had taken the car to work, it made things a lot easier for him to get to and from work and it meant he wasn't arriving home as late at night. With the temperature being so high she had coated Christopher all over in sun cream and placed a cute little baseball cap that Red had bought him, on his head. The little hat matched the little denim shorts and cotton t-shirt set that Kitty had bought. It was one of many outfit's Eric's parents had bought for him, not to mention toys, a walker and a moses basket.
Donna had received so many gifts for Christopher that neither her nor Eric needed to buy anything for him besides the basic things. He had clothing right up to a year old, which made things a lot easier as Christopher, like most babies, was growing so quickly. He was still breast feeding well and was now sleeping most of the night, only waking around 3am for another feeding. He was generally a really happy and healthy little boy and they thought the world of him. Eric, although not being Christopher's biological father was bonding with him so much, it almost seemed like Donna was only there for breast feeds. She loved just watching the two of them together, she was especially touched to find Eric asleep on the sofa with Christopher lying along his chest sleeping too.
Pushing her sunglasses up a little she noticed Daniel walking along the small path toward them. Donna felt like getting up and just running as far away from him as possible, but she knew no matter how hard or fast she ran he would find her. He too had sunglasses covering his eyes, the rest of him dressed in a business suit, he'd obviously been at work. Slowly he sat down beside her "hey," he offered a soft greeting. "Hi," Donna mumbled in response, this was extremely awkward.
"Hey little guy..." Daniel smiled leaning over Donna to get to Christopher's stroller. He reached in and unbuckled him from it and lifted him into his arms. Donna's heart had never pounded so hard in her life, she was almost afraid Daniel might hear it. "He's gorgeous. Hey Christopher ... I'm your daddy," Daniel cooed, then rubbed his nose against Christopher's. The baby seemed generally content with the affection Daniel was showing him; but Donna on the other hand wasn't so content.
"God Donna, I can't believe how gorgeous he is. He's perfect," Daniel smiled at Donna. "He is," Donna answered promptly. Daniel curled Christopher into the crook of his arm then looked at Donna. "I know this isn't the best way for this whole thing to have happened. I really feel sorry for Eric in all of this..." Daniel mocked sympathy and Donna could see right through it, like a glass window. "No you don't. You're loving every minute of this, otherwise why would you have raped me to get me pregnant?" She didn't look at him, instead watched the older children running around.
Daniel didn't know what to say in response to her accusations, he thought a moment then responded. "Donna ... I don't know ... I can't explain why I did what I did. I just knew I had to have you ... to myself. I knew the only way to do that was to get you pregnant..." Daniel looked at the ground, still bouncing Christopher in his arms. Donna turned and looked at him with complete contempt "You raped me to get me pregnant because you had to have me!? What kind of sick person are you? ..." Donna reached over to take Christopher from Daniel's arms, but before she could reach him Daniel stood up, gripping the baby a little tighter.
"Donna. You can't take him from me, he's my son. Not Eric's. Mine. I'll have visitation rights to him three times a week, maybe more on holidays. I want him to have a father figure in his life, I know you won't want to live with me, but we could make this work. We could be a family." Daniel had never been more serious in his life, than he was right now. Donna stood up slowly, taking in everything he had just said to her "He has a father at home. Eric is his father, he was there to watch him grow, he was there to see him come into the world and he's there for the rest of his life. As for your visitation rights ... you can take it through the courts, because as far as I'm concerned your an unfit example of a father and I don't want you near my son."
Donna took Christopher from Daniel's arms roughly and placed him back into his stroller, making sure he was securely in. Daniel's temper was reaching boiling point with Donna, he reached out and grabbed her arm roughly and pulled her to him. "I have the best lawyer in L.A. I'll fight you all the way and I'll win." He spat before throwing her back out of his grasp. He then took the teddy he held in his arms and placed it beside Christopher. With a menacing look at Donna, he then walked away, pulling his sunglasses back down over his eyes.
At the speed Donna had walked they had returned back to the apartment in half the time it had taken them to get to the park in the first place. She placed Christopher down into his crib, all the excitement and the heat had clearly wiped the poor thing out. Leaving the room again she reached into his stroller that sat in the doorway and took the teddy from inside. Walking over to the sofa she slouched down totally exhausted. She looked at the teddy and thought about what had happened, would she really loose Christopher if Daniel won the court case against them?
